Hall Summit School

May 30, 2015 and my friends Sarah, Nathan and I had just dropped off their daughter Nova with Sarah's sister. We were driving around on our way back to Shreveport and when we were passing through Hall Summit this is what we came across. Sarah's childhood school sitting there abandoned and its bones falling apart. In 2001 the district had consolidated and Hall Summit School had been locked up and abandoned.
Her hallways once full of life were now earily quiet....
The lockers that once secured the makings of future great minds are open and emptied....
Classrooms are destroyed....
The staircases lead up to more of the same....
Shelves no longer have a purpose....
I'm sure in its heyday many came through here and are now excelling....
The covered walkways leading from one building to another still stand. Today they are covered with overgrown landscaping that once adorned the sides.....
Some like to shoot their subjects with bullets, I choose to do it with a camera!
Reflecting back to my school years brings back many mixed memories. We walked through these hallways for a while and it saddened me to see such a beautiful school being left alone and abandoned for nature to take her down.
The once proud hornets of these hallways were no more....
It's once beautiful and majestic auditorium and gym is now old and frail...
I could sit here for hours and daydream of all the wonderful memories that were created here by others.

Hopefully someone will come along and rescue her, make her once again productive of brilliant minds...
There's always a glimmer of light in the future no matter how dark it seems in the present.
If you listen closely you can hear the joy and laughter in those old hallways of yesteryears gone by....

    1. Christen, I like to focus on good memories myself. Like you it saddened me to see this grand building fall on hard times. Hopefully my entry will remind someone to take action to maybe repurpose the school into something else that serves the community.

  6. That would be awesome Kristie. All it takes is someone to start the ball rolling and hopefully I have planted a seed that can grow into a movement. Good luck to you and the community in this endeavor.

  7. I graduated from there in 1996. 3 generations of family, me, mom, my grandma attended that school. Wiley/Mingo family has always been a part of that school. We were truly a family. We were a unit that looked out for each other. I'll never forget my time there.

    1. Interesting that you graduated from Hall Summit in 1996 since the school closed atleast 6 years before that.

  12. It is really sad, my brother, my sister and I all graduated from this school. I was in Hall Summit the other day and while driving by you could barely even see it anymore because of all the overgrown shrubs. Many memories,
